First, open yast. Now go to installation source(see image)

When started, it displays a list of all previously registered sources. Following a normal installation from CD, only the installation CD is listed.

Click ‘Add’ to include additional sources in this list. Sources can be CDs, DVDs, or network sources, such as NFS and FTP servers. Even directories on the local hard disk can be selected as the installation medium.

All registered sources have an activation status in the first column of the list. Enable or disable individual installation sources by clicking ‘Activate or Deactivate’. During the installation of software packages or updates, YaST selects a suitable entry from the list of activated installation sources. When you exit the module with ‘Close’, the current settings are saved and applied to the configuration modules ‘Software Management’ and ‘System Update’.

Adding Install Sources Via the Command Line


For SUSE 10.0 and previous only. Using the bellow will not work on 10.1. For 10.1 substitute installation_sources -a, with rug sa.

As root in a console type:

Java 1.5 Install Source
As root in a console type:

This next section is community repositories, these provide packages with legal issues which mean that Novell can’t distribute them, and often newer versions of packages, bear in mind that these packages may not have been tested as well as the set of packages in the above stable repositories
Packman Source

As root in a console type:
installation_sources -a http://packman.inode.at/suse/10.0/

Packman Mirrors
Guru Source

As root in a console type:
installation_sources -a http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/10.0/


This next section is SUSE package update repositories, these provide newer versions of major packages than those in the stable repositories, again bear in mind that these may not have been tested as well as those in the stable repository

KDE Upgrade if Available
As root in a console type:
installation_sources -a http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_10.0/yast-source/


If on x86_64 architecture (AMD64, EMT64), type the following:
