Title: VPN PPTP client

Linux Version: Suse 9.2 (and a bit 9.1 and 8.2)

Many companies make use of a so called VPN network to access intranet network. If your company has such a network and provided you with an IP address to call and an user name and password you can follow this tutorial.
I'm quite new to Linux and Suse and I didn't found it difficult to follow the instructions. :)

Luckily most work is done by the makers of the PPTP Client found on sourceforge.net. Basically you go to the Suse 9.2 howto link: (pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-suse-92∞) and follow the instructions. Instead of copying the instructions to this forum and improve them here I will send improvements to the PPTP Client website. Until they are added there I will list them here.



At first I was a bit concerned at the –nodeps option. Most time is used this it gave me all kind of missing this missing that problems but not this time. When I ran YaST2 (as suggested in step 3) there were some packages added and no problems occurred.



I didn't look at the Packages of Paul (because i already followed the instructions) but a next time I will try it (if you did please tell us your result).



Step 5.e is a bit confusing it says 'add "1723" to FW_SERVICES_EXT_TCP' but in the screen dump you see that 'ssh 1723' is added. I added 'ssh 1723' and that worked fine.



Don't forget to run pptpconfig with the command 'kdesu pptpconfig' instead of doing a su to root.

• Note:
• I tried a couple of other VPN programs like freeswan this could have effect on my PPTP client install (like some package already installed).

ToDo:
Do an install on a clean Suse 9.2.
Make more screen dumps
